Description and Service

Description (Service)

To report suspected abuse of domestic animals (pets)
For animal cruelty complaints of abuse or neglect, the Provincial Animal Welfare Service (through the Ministry of the Solicitor General) has a 24/7 animal abuse hotline.
Information on the Provincial Animal Welfare Service can be found on the website.

Call 9-1-1 for the following situations:

  • to report incidents of animals in distress or locked in a hot or cold vehicle
  • any attack by an animal to people or other animals that requires emergency medical attention
  • to report a dog or cock fighting ring
  • if you witness an act of animal cruelty

Animal cruelty can be also reported anonymously with Crime Stoppers - 1-800-222-8477 (1-800-222-TIPS)

For information or to report a missing or stray cat or dog, please call your municipal animal control officer.

Municipal law enforcement is not responsible for the removal of nuisance wildlife (ie skunks, racoons); this is the responsibility of the home owner.

For concerns about sick or injured wildlife in the wild
Information on what to do if you find a sick, injured or abandoned wild animal can be found on the Rescue a sick, injured or abandoned wild animal webpage.
