Description (Service)

Responsible for public electrical safety in Ontario

  • stand-alone not-for-profit corporation
  • powers and duties derived from The Electricity Act and The Safety and Consumer Statutes Administration Act
  • does wiring inspections for all new construction and renovations in the residential, commercial and industrial markets
  • electrical work must be inspected as required by the Ontario Electrical Safety Code
  • permits required 48 hours before starting work
  • issues inspection certificates
  • responds to reports of unapproved electrical equipment
  • publishes the Ontario Electrical Safety code every three years
  • provides Electrical Safety code Training
  • provides electrical incidents report guidelines
  • publishes Electrical Safety Tips for the public
