Description and Service
Description (Agency) Mission of the Alzheimer Society of Simcoe County is to improve the quality of life of persons who are directly affected by Alzheimer's disease and other dementias * the Society's goals are to provide information, education and public awareness, family and caregiver support, funding for research and advocacy
Description (Service) Provides information, education and support for persons living with Alzheimer's disease and other dementias, and their care partners 
Core Services Include: 
* First Link a direct referral program that connects people affected by Alzheimer's disease or a related dementia and their care partners to a community of learning, services and support * Supportive Counselling is available on an individual basis to help people address concerns related to living with a diagnosis of dementia 
* First Link Learning Series for Persons Living with Dementia and Care Partners 
* Taking Control of Our Lives (an 8-week self management program for persons living with dementia) 
* Minds in Motion - an 8 week physical and social program combining exercise with cognitively stimulating activities 
* Monthly Care Partner Support Groups (operating in all parts of the county) 
* Respite Groups - Concurrent respite groups operate in conjunction with 2 of the monthly support groups (Barrie Evening, Orillia Daytime) enabling care partners to come out to access support 
* Coffee Social/Luncheon Groups in Barrie and Orillia for persons living with dementia and their care partners 
* Educational workshops for people living with dementia, care partners and professionals  
* Information packages are available upon request

* Medic Alert's Safely Home Registry 
* education sessions for staff in health care facilities and agencies 
* public awareness presentations 
* resource library 
* e-newsletter 
* Music Project - provides individuals living with dementia with a music player and personalized music visit to register or call 705-722-1066 
Special Events and Fundraising Activities 
* January is Alzheimer Awareness Month 
* Walk for Alzheimer's, May 26, 2019 in Barrie  
* Tag Days held annually during the summer throughout the County of Simcoe  
* Alzheimer Coffee Break, a nation-wide fundraising and awareness event is held in September each year 
Member of the North Simcoe Muskoka Community Support Services Collaborative and the North Simcoe Muskoka Dementia Network

Application Self referrals or referrals from Health Care Professionals * referral form is available on website * call, email or drop-in to access general information and/or to start the process of accessing the services * appointments are required to speak with a Family Support Coordinator

Volunteer Description * many opportunities for volunteer involvement including: office help, committee work, public awareness (e.g. health fairs, public speaking) and fundraising (e.g. walk-a-thon, tag days, Coffee Break)
