DescriptionProvides informational, recreational and cultural resources for all ages including books, magazines, CD-ROM's, compact discs, newspapers, maps, DVDs, Electronic books, downloadable audiobooks, and Internet access (including wireless) * in addition, online databases on many topics are available through the library website and from computers within the library * books and video materials are available in some other languages * Barrie Public Library houses the library collection of the Ontario Genealogical Society, Simcoe County Branch * two computers with Office XP (Word, Excel, Powerpoint) are available for public use * tours of the Library are available (book in advance) * the library has two individual study rooms * Community meeting rooms are available for rental (see separate record)  
 
Print Braille for children also available * Talking Book Service, Large Print Book Collection, and CNIB materials are available to library users who, due to a visual or physical disability, cannot use conventional print materials * The Library newsletter is available through the website in a version for the visually impaired * The library has a specialized unit which magnifies print material for the visually impaired * a walker and a wheelchair are available to use in the library * Visiting Library Service is available to individuals who cannot visit the library in person  
 
The Barrie Public Library offers a variety of programs for children and teens including children's storytime programs and storytime kits * offers adult programs such as internet and email workshops, workshops to introduce specialized online resources, as well as information sessions on many topics from health to travel to business * book clubs for adults, teens and children are offered throughout the year 
 
Information Barrie operates as a community information and referral service * the Information Barrie database of community organizations and community events calendar are available through the library website 
 
The Annual Barrie Dragon Boat Festival is held in August and involves Dragon boat races and land-based activities in support of this event * the Festival is in support of Barrie Public Library plus other local charities
