| Description | Provides youth and family mental health supports for children, youth, and families experiencing a crisis situation not imminently life threatening but would benefit from an immediate supportive response * crisis services responds to calls from involved youth, parents and community members who are concerned about youth who present as overly sad, worried, suicidal, aggressive, threatening/out of control behaviour, or who may have worries about disturbing or unusual behaviours * crisis worker will provide a telephone response within one hour of receiving the call from the referral source * crisis worker will assist parents and youth over the telephone to address concerning behaviour safely and will support the development of plans intended to stabilize the situation * crisis worker can conduct a risk assessment involving the child or youth in the hospital, in the client's home if the situation is safe, or in an office, to assist with determining the level of risk (for self-harm or harm to others) for the child or youth * crisis worker will mutually determine where to meet * crisis worker will assist with the development of safety plans and coping plans * they will provide information and supportive counselling using Cognitive Behaviour Therapy and the Positive Parenting program strategies * referrals to resources in the community will be supported * crisis response worker will provide follow-up for up with the agreement of the youth and family * an appointment is provided to the youth and family as needed (ie from next day to next week) following the first contact * further support to ensure continued de-escalation of the crisis occurs * primary goal is to provide a short-term service directed at improving functioning for youth and families and providing a referral to the appropriate community resources where necessary * parent support is part of the service Kinark Child and Family Services provides the Youth Crisis Response Service in most of Simcoe County, except for that portion of the County which is in the 519 area code or in the Bradford area The Mental Health Crisis Line operates out of Mental Health and Addiction Services of Simcoe County and provides telephone crisis intervention 24 hours a day * the Crisis Line provides the link to the Youth Crisis Response Worker * Youth Crisis Response Services for Children and Youth is an initiative of the Ontario Government | |||
